Boston University Doubles Campus Capacity of Waltham MA Center for Digital Imaging Arts (CDIA)

13 December 2005

Today, Boston University's Center for Digital Imaging Arts (CDIA) is opening a new 15,000 square foot facility to accommodate the Center's growing student population and demand for the school's Digital Arts Certificate Programs. The new facility is located at 274 Moody Street, adjacent to the 15,000 square foot campus at 282 Moody Street.

With two new film and photography studios, a recording arts studio, seven classrooms, and a gallery space for student and faculty exhibitions, the new state-of-the-art facility will give CDIA much-needed additional space for its popular academic programs.

«We're thrilled to announce the opening of our new facility,» said CDIA Executive Director Bob Daniels. «The new space lets us respond to the growing interest in CDIA. Each semester we're enrolling more and more students, and with the addition of our new Graphic and Interactive Design and Record Arts Certificate Programs, we expect the trend to continue.»

Daniels' forecast is supported by the Department of Labor's Job Outlook. According to the DOL, «Employment in the motion picture and video industries is projected to grow 31 percent between 2002 and 2012, roughly double the 16 percent growth projected for all industries combined." "To meet in-home demand for video, DVDs and films over the internet, (there will be an increasing need for) computer specialists, multimedia artists and animators, film and video editors, others skilled in digital filmmaking, editing and computer-generated imaging, (as well as) broadcast and sound engineering technicians.»

CDIA offers two-term (nine months) Certificate Programs in Digital Photography, Digital Filmmaking, 3D Animation, Graphic and Interactive Design and Recording Arts. Certificate Programs are also offered on a part-time basis during evening hours.
