Canadian Regional Network Orders KODAK PACS, CARESTREAM Enterprise Information Management

26 April 2006

Grey Bruce Imaging Network, Owen Sound, Ontario, has selected KODAK CARESTREAM PACS and KODAK CARESTREAM Enterprise Information Management to serve its regional network.

Kodak's PACS (picture archiving and communications system) will be installed at all facilities and Kodak's Enterprise Information Management platform will provide centralized management from one location for the network's 11 hospitals and 175,000 annual imaging studies, as well as data collected by other clinical information systems. Non-clinical information systems may also be added in future.

The Grey Bruce Imaging Network also purchased data migration services from Eastman Kodak Company's Health Group to transfer images from two of its member hospitals with existing PACS systems to the new platform, which will facilitate access and provide greater efficiency.

The Grey Bruce Imaging Network - which includes Grey Bruce Health Services, South Bruce Grey Health Centre and Hanover and District Hospital - conducted an extensive evaluation process that involved 11 suppliers prior to selecting Kodak's Health Group for this large-scale regional implementation.

"Kodak proved that they had both the products and expertise to handle a complex installation that involves multiple patient identification numbers and interfaces to our patient care systems," Rob Croft, Corporate Director of Systems Integration and Projects, Grey Bruce Health Services. "Kodak also delivered a centralized software platform to manage DICOM and non-DICOM images and information across our entire imaging network. This capability is going to streamline image transfer processes, which frees up our staff to respond to increased demand for clinical services."

Kodak's PACS will be integrated with a CERNER radiology information system and a DICTAPHONE POWERSCRIBE(R) speech recognition system. PACS users will have built-in access to ORTHOVIEW orthopaedic surgical templates and 3D imaging capabilities that are integral to Kodak's PACS platform. Scanned documents will also be available for access by networked users.

The Grey Bruce Imaging Network also purchased more than a dozen KODAK DIRECTVIEW Computed Radiography Systems for digital image capture as part of its transformation to digital imaging and information management systems.

Kodak's CARESTREAM Enterprise Information Management (EIM) provides access to DICOM and other information distributed across multiple sites, storage platforms and architectures associated with clinical and back office systems. This solution equips healthcare providers to add new storage technologies or devices at any time and achieves efficiencies through central management of all storage systems using a single database. This platform employs storage plans that conduct automatic, intelligent lifecycle management based upon user instructions that are specific to each type of data or imaging study.
