Cinemasports Teams Use nNovia Technology To Compete Better

22 September 2005

When is getting your video done quickly as important as getting your video done at all? When you only have 10 hours to write, film, edit and print your video so it can be screened in the 11th hour; in other words, you’ve just signed up for a Cinemasports event. During the summer, in San Francisco and New York, nNovia’s QuickCapture and QuickCapture A2D units came to the rescue for many Cinemasports participants. In its first local, grassroots sponsorship program nNovia found Cinemasports to be a great way to show the video community how easy it is to use the QuickCapture family of digital video recorders to streamline workflow by eliminating the entire log and capture process from editing.

nNovia’s QuickCapture was created with just these types of time restrictions in mind because most professional videographers are all too familiar with the pressure to deliver projects yesterday. Cinemasports participants received loaner QuickCapture units for the day for each event, learned to use them in a matter of minutes, and saved themselves hours by eliminating the capture process.

Simultaneously spread across San Francisco and New York City, Cinemasports videographers strapped on their QuickCapture units, connected them to their cameras by Firewire and started shooting. By functioning as a portable deck, media converter and hard drive all at once, nNovia’s QuickCapture and QuickCapture A2D units record the video stream straight from a camera ’s digital or analog outputs onto its internal hard disk drive.

Once their shoots were over, a simple drag-and-drop downloaded the edit-ready files to a local hard drive onto an editing computer. So while the rest of the competition was still logging and setting in and out points, QuickCapture users were already in their timelines slicing and dicing. By facilitating a capture-free editing workflow, the QuickCapture and QuickCapture A2D helped teams of Cinemasports participants disregard their tapes and skip ahead to complete their projects on time. In the end, it was a QuickCapture user that won the grand prize in San Francisco, a free QC40 QuickCapture.

In a world where time is money, nNovia’s QuickCapture and QuickCapture A2D are designed to make the life of any videographer easier. Luckily for the Cinemasports participants, money was not on the line. It seems however, that blood, sweat, tears and pride are on the line every time and nNovia’s QuickCapture and QuickCapture A2D Digital Video Recorders proved that getting it done quickly is always better than just getting it done.

The first portable analog/digital hard disk drive recorder, the QuickCapture A2D bridges the gap between commonly used digital and analog camcorders and the newest digital video equipment by storing up to seven and one half hours of footage shot with a camera right on its hard drive . Plus, users can still use their tapes as a back up. Available in 3, 4.5, 6 and 7.5 hour versions, QuickCapture and QuickCapture A2D mark clips with time code while shooting for quick access later and can be belt-worn or camera -mounted.

“The introduction of the nNovia QuickCapture A2D greatly reduces time and cost by recording edit- ready file formats directly to a hard drive from any analog or digital camera during field shooting,” said Vincent Bruno, Managing Director , ProCon Technology USA.
