Cooke Optics Launches New Zoom, Boasting T2 Speed and Impressive Close Focus

25 December 2005

Cooke, a world leading manufacturer of optics for the film industry, is set to again raise the bar for innovation with the new S4/i 15-40mm CXX Zoom. Above and beyond superior optical and mechanical performance, the CXX offers features that just aren't found anywhere else and can do things that other zooms can't.

In addition to its impressive close focus at less than 7 inches from the front of the element, the CXX Zoom offers professionals blazing speed with the ability to shoot at T2 - with an overall T Stop ranging up to T22. The CXX Zoom features a focal length of 15 – 40mm that is packed in a surprisingly lightweight chassis that weighs only 7.9 pounds (3.6kg), making it ideal for all shooting scenarios including Steadicam use. Weight is equally distributed from the front of the lens to the lens mount and the new zoom is comparable in size to a Cooke S4/i Prime telephoto lens, measuring only 9 inches. Shooters will also benefit from Cooke's new and patent pending, Variable Vignetting Stop, which allows the high-speed CXX lens to maintain T2 and high resolution throughout the entire zoom range. The Variable Vignetting Stop mechanism adjusts automatically with no ramping or flare.

The CXX Zoom is also as «intelligent» as it is advanced, featuring Cooke's /i Technology (the «i» stands for intelligence). With /i Technology, the CXX is able to provide real time, electronic feedback on lens setting, focus distance, aperture, depth-of-field and more, which can then be displayed using a /i Data Display. Like the entire S4 range, the S4/i 15-40mm CXX Zoom offers excellent definition in low light or shadow and with Cooke's acclaimed multicoating, provides what's known in the cine realm as the «Cooke Look» – a lush, velvety appearance with rich warm colors.

Coinciding with the launch of the lens, Cooke Optics is also running a contest where the first 25 people to email the significance of the CXX name, will receive a free gift. As a hint, the answer can be found on the Cooke Optics website, www.cookeoptics.com.
