Kodak Discovers Next Blockbuster on the Scale of Viagra®,' Reports Photo Industry Expert, Mitch Goldstone

25 October 2005

Just as how the key ingredient of Viagra® was initially developed as a heart medication, Kodak’s Document Imaging high-speed commercial scanners were originally designed for scanning documents, such as checks.

In fact, the www.Kodak.com website still lists their scanners under the “Business and Government” category, rather than cross-marketing it to the photo industry.

But, if Mitch Goldstone is right, things are about to change and just in time for the peak holiday retail season. The timing is also important because of the recent natural disasters which ruined generations of treasured family photos and erased many businesses and organizations’ pictures too.

“With hundreds-of-billions of treasured family photos awaiting to be digitally transformed and preserved, I am convinced that Kodak has a blockbuster on the level of Pfizer’s leading prescription medication,” explained Goldstone, president and CEO of 30 Minute Photos Etc. and www.30minphotos.com.

The proof?

“Just last Friday, 30 Minute Photos Etc., the retail and online boutique photo center scanned more than 10,000 individual photos. Prior to introducing Kodak’s commercial scanner and Kodak Capture Software, we would typically process just a handful of photos each day,” explained Goldstone.

“The charge was $5.00 for each scan and it would take about 90-seconds, now we can do 1,000 in just minutes. What’s notable is that the ten-thousand photos we saved as digital CDs in one day occurred prior to the launch of our national marketing campaign: ‘Instantly turn your shoeboxes of photo memories into digital CD’s and upload to share and make prints.’”

The commercial scanner is so proficient that it actually can scan both sides of a photo, which is ideal for older pictures with personal hand-written messages on the back. From onion-skin-thin snapshots to thicker pictures, it scans all sizes from 2x2 - 11x17 inches.

What last week cost $5.00, today is just 5-cents to digitally preserve generations of family photos; Convert your shoebox of 1,000 photos into giant, individual one (MB), high resolution (300 dpi) digital files for just $49.95 -- while you wait at 30 Minute Photos Etc. (nationwide, overnight courier service available).

Beyond raves from his customers, Goldstone expects there will be equally loud cheers throughout Rochester, NY -- home to the world's leader in digital imaging. “As this takes off, Kodak will quickly recognize the vast international market potential for their commercial scanners and how it links together several of its business units. This is so similar to the history of Viagra®, which transformed into an entirely different use and launched a blockbuster for Pfizer,” said Goldstone.
