Media Advisory/Photo Opportunity - GO Transit helps those in need by donating cell phones and raising tons of spare change13 December 2005
What: Photo opportunity of GO Transit donating over 300 cell phones to United Way of Greater Toronto for women's and children's shelters. GO staff have collected all the unclaimed cell phones from Union Station's Lost and Found, and United Way will distribute the phones to women in shelters, who can use them for emergency assistance calls to 911. GO's Transit Enforcement team will also be leading the GO for United Way spare change collection, where thousands of commuters will empty their pockets to support GO Transit's United Way campaign. With your help, GO's spare change days have raised tens of thousands of dollars over the years. We're hoping to have another successful event this year. If GO could collect just 25 cents from each of the 65,000 commuters inside Union Station during the morning rush, it would add up to over $16,000 going towards a great cause.
