-- Reel Stream LLC announces the beginning of their beta testing program for the Andromeda data acquistion system. The professional public is invited to apply online at http://www.reel-stream.com.
Applications will be available on April 18th, 2005. Those selected will be notified via email by April 30th, 2005. There is a $1,500 cost involved with acting as a hardware beta tester. The price for beta testers to upgrade to the full version will be offset by this initial amount plus an extended discount.
The Andromeda Data Acquistion System allows users of digital video cameras like Panasonic's AG-DVX100A to extract uncompressed high-resolution data from the camera's digitized CCD data.
Andromeda can be retrofitted to an existing camera and does not affect any of the normal operations of the host camera. This includes recording to DV tape while Andromeda is operating.
The hardware upgrade connects internally to intercept raw CCD data after digitization and prior to any decimation, color space reduction or compression. This raw data is recorded onto a computer hard drive via high speed USB 2.0 and can be processed into a multitude of popularly used data formats (compressed or uncompressed) with Reel-Stream's SculptorHD software. SculptorHD also provides a real time monitoring system which displays image detail unavailable on the host camera's viewfinder due to theincreased dynamic range of the uncompressed data. The resulting output from Andromeda can be used in any standard NLE or other postproduction software.
The uncompressed CCD captures provide the full output of all available photo sensors providing the user with improved spatial resolution and a dramatic increase in color data. The Andromeda system also produces a drastically increased dynamic range and latitude.
Another exciting feature of the hardware/software combination is its ability to output Uncompressed 1280x720p HD.
The new configuration of the Andromeda hardware will be showcased at NAB in booth SU9969
