Sony announces new 4 GB Memory Stick(R) Pro Duo(TM)22 March 2006
Sony of Canada Ltd., Canada's leading electronic and computer products solutions provider for consumers and business, today unveiled the 4 GB (gigabyte) Memory Stick(R) PRO Duo(TM) flash media card, featuring the largest storage capacity of any such product in the marketplace. At one-third the size and half the weight of the standard-size Memory Stick card, the 4 GB PRO Duo media is designed to store large amounts of rich, multi-media content, including movies, music and high-resolution digital photos. "As we've increased capacity, the Memory Stick format has advanced beyond serving primarily for storage of digital still images," said Neil Dutton, Product Manager, Digital Imaging Accessories & Memory Stick, Consumer Audio Visual/Information Technology Group, Sony of Canada Ltd. "With our postage stamp-sized 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo media card, people can store all of their vacation photos and wedding videos, along with their favorite movies, music and even game-scores from a PlayStation Portable device." The new media card is compatible with a wide selection of currently available devices, including Sony's Cyber-Shot(R) T-Series and W-Series digital cameras, Handycam(R) camcorders and the PlayStation PSP system. For added versatility, all Sony Memory Stick PRO Duo media cards are sold with an adapter for devices with a standard-size Memory Stick media slot. It also offers the industry's highest durability with a standard operating temperature range of -13 F to +185 F. Like all Memory Stick media products, the 4 GB Memory Stick PRO Duo card incorporates MagicGate(R) copyright protection technology to allow for secure distribution of commercial content such as digital music and downloaded movies. The 4 GB Memory Stick PRO Duo media card will be available in July at a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $349.99. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Specifications ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Memory Flash Memory ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Storage Capacity 4 GB ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Usable Capacity Approx.3.66 GB ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Interface Memory Stick Interface (Serial/Parallel) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Operating Voltage 2.7V-3.6V ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Average Operating Current (Serial transfer) 65mA (max.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Average Operating Current (Parallel transfer) 100mA (max.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Standby Current 1.5mA (max.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Access (Read/Write) 15Mbps when combined with optimized Memory Speed(parallel transfer) Stick PRO format-compatible devices ------------------------------------------------------------------------- About Sony of Canada Ltd.
