The Vision Show East, North America's largest showcase of machine vision components, systems and solutions, takes center stage in Boston, May 9-11, 2006, at the Hynes Convention Center.

The show features exhibits from some 100 global machine vision industry leaders, including many from the Boston area, who will exhibit their latest image acquisition and analysis products such as cameras, frame grabbers, lighting & optics, and software.

Commonly used in applications such as inspecting computer chips, checking for accurate filling of beverage cans, correct placement of pharmaceutical labels, security and tire inspection, machine vision is a $5 billion plus global industry, according to the Automated Imaging Association (AIA), the trade group that sponsors The Vision Show East.

"Machine vision use is on the rise in just about every major industry, as companies recognize that this technology can help them improve productivity, boost product quality, speed time to market, and become stronger global competitors," said Jeffrey A. Burnstein, AIA's Executive Director.

The show, and the accompanying technical conference beginning today, helps current and potential users understand how to successfully apply machine vision at their companies, Burnstein said. At the show, AIA will announce the launch of the new GigE Vision(TM) interface standard, which allows hardware and software from different vendors to interoperate seamlessly over GigE connections. GigE Vision(TM) is important to the industry because it is the first standard to allow for fast image transfer using low cost standard cables. The official premiere of the industry-developed standard will take place at a party on the show floor from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9.

Other highlights include free new product talks on the show floor on May 9 and 10; free crossover registration to the Nanotech Show also at Hynes Convention Center on May 9; and a tutorial on an Introduction to Machine Vision Inspection from 8:30 to Noon on Monday, May 8, which serves as a primer for people who are new to machine vision (fee required).
