Verizon Wireless Offers Handset-Camera27 January 2005
Verizon Wireless began offering Wednesday a 1.3 mega pixel camera/camcorder handset with 512 MB memory capability for the firm's 3G EV-DO wireless broadband network. The CDM8940 handset is available for about $300 although a $70 rebate can lower the price.
Developed by UTStarcom Personal Communications, the handset can be used as a video camcorder in addition to its use as a digital camera. A mini-SD slot enables users to store up to 512 MB of memory.
Other features include voice-activated dialing and vibrating alert. The CDM8940 has a rechargeable Li Ion battery that supports up to 220 minutes of talk time or 190 hours of standby time, Verizon said.
Verizon Wireless has been rolling out its EV-DO (evolution-data optimized) high-speed wireless 3G data service in urban areas across the United States.
