Video from Medialink: Scientists Launch Clinical Trial That Could Ultimately Allow Doctors to Tailor Treatment for Cancer Patients

12 June 2006

The clinical trial, sponsored by GE Healthcare, will test a new imaging agent for cancer detection on more than two-dozen breast cancer patients. This research will track the process of angiogenesis, which is the growth of new blood vessels in the body. This experimental contrast agent could help doctors monitor new vessel production, and identify a tumor's exact dimensions. If the trial is successful, researchers say the results could be "groundbreaking" for cancer patients.

This could accelerate the diagnosis of cancer; help monitor patients during chemotherapy to see if the treatment is working; and help ensure they are getting the right amount of treatment.
