Video Security Leader Selects Kopin CyberDisplay for Unique Handheld Camera Setup Tool

29 March 2005

Kopin(R) Corp. (Nasdaq: KOPN), the leading provider of microdisplays for mobile consumer electronics, today announced a partnership with a leading video security company, Pelco, headquartered in Clovis, California. Kopin will supply Pelco with the CyberDisplay(R) 180K color-filter microdisplay as well as driver IC chip and interface electronics for use in Pelco's new CST150 camera setup tool.

The compact CST150 is a handheld viewing device that plugs into any Pelco 5100 series camera. It enables technicians to align, focus and configure the cameras without occupying assistants or carrying a cumbersome portable monitor to display the video output. Kopin's high-resolution integrated microdisplay provides a crisp, clear image that enables technicians to finely focus the camera on the surveillance target and easily execute the programmable setup. As a result, Pelco customers can change and refine their camera surveillance on the fly, improving security while reducing technician time and labor.

"Kopin's compact, high-resolution CyberDisplay enables installers to configure our cameras and imaging products right at the installation site," said Jim Voss, Pelco senior product manager. "The Pelco CST150 is designed to provide the ultimate in installation ease. An installer simply plugs the tool directly into any Pelco camera featuring a service connector. The integrated microdisplay allows for fine-focus precision and setup flexibility at the installation site - with no more need for a second person back in the control room or for a bulky monitor."

Built with nanotechnology, the CyberDisplay 180K is a 0.24-inch-diagonal color-filter active matrix liquid crystal display (AMLCD) with a resolution of 800-by-225 (180,000) color dots. In addition to displaying standard text and graphics, the display operates at traditional video speeds and consumes less than 15 milliwatts of power. The high-resolution, power-efficient CyberDisplay 180K is ideal for portable consumer and industrial applications, including digital still camera and camcorder viewfinders, and personal video eyewear.

"The security industry is a natural market for Kopin," said Dr. John C. C. Fan, Kopin's president and chief executive officer. "Our CyberDisplay provides a large, crisp full-color image in a very compact size, which is ideal for handheld devices. We look forward to helping Pelco develop new products and enter new markets with our advanced microdisplay technology."

The Pelco CST150 viewer is available now. For more information, contact a Pelco representative at (800) 289-9100 in the United States and Canada or sales@pelco.com.
