Digital Distribution Australia Selects SPECTRUM(R) Infinity(TM)

Aprisma Management Technologies, Inc., a Gores Technology Group, LLC Company, today announced that Digital Distribution Australia (DDA) has selected Aprisma's SPECTRUMŽ Infinity(TM) to monitor the performance and reliability of its digital video broadcast and telecommunications infrastructure. DDA's network enables over 90% of Australia's telco carriers and major television broadcasters to offer voice, video, data, and Internet services to consumers. Carriers depend on DDA for customer access, content, and long-haul communications through regional Australia.

"We rely on SPECTRUM as our Manager of Managers (MoM) for actionable information," Patrick Hopgood, System Administrator for DDA explained. "The holistic view ensures that we can verify and validate the integrity of our transmission infrastructure, while automating previously manual tasks."

DDA chose SPECTRUM as the MoM based on its leading root cause analysis to prioritize, pinpoint, and notify regarding service problems and impacted customers. SPECTRUM's fault isolation and alarm notification is already alerting DDA immediately of any degraded or failed devices throughout its expansive network, while SPECTRUM iAgent is cost-effectively monitoring the server infrastructure. SPECTRUM's reporting solution will help DDA quickly verify and validate SLAs with at-a-glance actionable information tailored to executives, operations staff, service owners, and customers.

"We work behind the scenes to ensure that the solutions service providers offer to Australian consumers over our network consistently meet or exceed all service quality objectives," Hopgood continued. "As we expand to offer comprehensive service level management, it will be essential that the software platform we deploy be capable of end-to-end management."

DDA is a carrier's carrier, providing mission-critical services to broadcast and telecommunications customers. It has built and deployed one of the world's largest microwave radio networks, consisting of over 8,500 route kilometers with a capacity of 1 Gigabit-per-second along Australia's eastern coast and into Tasmania. DDA operates 120 communications sites between Hobart and Rockhampton, an SDH microwave network covering 30 sites between Sydney and Melbourne, fiber networks in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Wollongong, and a carrier class ISP network offering HDSL and ADSL services.

DDA's wireless telecommunications network is the aggregation point for Australia's regional service providers as well as two partners, Australian broadcasters WIN Television and Southern Cross Broadcasting. A fully redundant ATM network with over 100 points of presence (POPs) enables DDA to guarantee QoS to service providers. The 24x7 network operations center in Sydney uses SPECTRUM to monitor availability and reliability for Sun Microsystems servers as well as 1,000-plus routers and switches from Cisco, Foundry, Lucent, Marconi, ECI, and Atecom.

Allied Technologies Group is working with DDA to fully deploy SPECTRUM. As DDA begins offering Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB), a new technology in Australia that requires extensive customization of multi-vendor devices, SPECTRUM's ability to easily discover and configure network devices will prove especially valuable in helping them quickly roll out and manage this new technology.

"We value the close working relationship we're building with Aprisma's local Australian office," Hopgood concluded. "It's quite helpful to have their technical and sales resources right here. As questions arise, we have found them to be extremely responsive and we anticipate a long and successful partnership with Aprisma."
