Zoran Demonstrates World's First Digital Camera Processor With High-Definition Digital Output

18 February 2005

Zoran Corporation (Nasdaq: ZRAN) announced that its highly integrated eighth generation COACH (Camera On A CHip) processor, the industry's only solution that offers a High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) and support for Windows Multimedia Video (WMV), MPEG-4, and MPEG-2, is available in sample quantities to qualified digital camera manufacturers.

Zoran is demonstrating the entire range of advanced COACH 8 features at the Photo Marketing Association (PMA) trade show in Orlando from February 20 to 23. The COACH 8 is the industry's only digital camera solution that offers high quality video capture supporting WMV, MPEG-4, and MPEG-2 working in conjunction with Zoran's patent pending jitter stabilization technology.

"Over 50 million digital cameras were sold worldwide during 2004," said Chris Chute, research analyst at IDC. "Expanding digital camera functionality to include HDMI, as Zoran does with its new COACH 8 processor, will let consumers view their digital video as well as photos in high resolution on their high definition televisions."

"Zoran's COACH 8 is the most highly integrated digital imaging and video solution available today. COACH 8 advanced platforms enable affordable high quality digital cameras with fast click-to-click performance and high definition digital video capabilities," said Coby Sella, vice president and general manager, Zoran's Mobile division.

Digital camera manufacturers have a broad range of COACH 8 products to select from, ranging from digital-imaging only solutions to more enhanced versions that include the advanced video codecs and HDMI interface. COACH 8 is also available in a multi-chip package for space-saving boards for ultra slim cameras.

COACH 8-based reference designs from Zoran enable manufacturers to bring these new digital camera offerings quickly to market. COACH 8 maintains firmware compatibility with the previous generation COACH 7, so that all customer and third party development efforts are preserved while migrating to COACH 8.

Previous versions of the COACH single-chip processor power camera models from manufacturers such as Casio, Concord, Kodak, Konica-Minolta, Olympus, Pentax, Ricoh, Samsung, SiPix, Toshiba, Vivitar and others.
