Zoran's COACH Processor Powers World's First Digital Camera with HDMI and First Digital Camera with Portable Media Player Features From Samsung26 May 2006
Zoran Corporation (Nasdaq: ZRAN) announced that its COACH digital camera processor is powering Samsung's new Digimax L85, the world's first digital camera supporting the High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) and the Digimax i6 digital camera with portable media player features. Zoran's COACH processor enables eight megapixel high resolution still and video capture in the new Digimax L85 digital camera, which is equipped with the 5x Schneider optical zoom lens. In addition to many advanced photographic features, the L85 supports MPEG-4 30 frames per second VGA resolution recording for an enhanced video experience. The High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI), provided by the COACH processor, allows viewers to watch still and video photography on high definition television displays. Images sent by the Digimax L85 are in HDTV native resolution, typically between 1.5 to 2 megapixels, while the standard analog connection available in most other cameras supports only 300 kilopixels. "We are pleased to be able to offer digital camera users the 'Wow' experience of viewing their photos on high definition televisions with our new Digimax L85 camera," said Mr. B.D. Nam, vice president of DSC development center at Samsung Techwin Co., LTD. "Our long-term partnership with Zoran continues to allow us to deliver distinctive high-end features in uniquely designed digital cameras that offer a higher level of satisfaction to consumer photographers." The Digimax i6 digital camera from Samsung combines high quality photography with portable media player features. The new camera that comes equipped with a 2.5-inch LCD display supports video editing features, playback of video and audio in various formats, and can function as a digital still camera, video camera, video player or music player. "Viewers will be astonished by the breathtaking quality of the megapixel photos displayed on a high definition television. The Digimax L85 provides a new and exciting use of digital photography and an improved experience for digital photographers," said Ohad Meitav, senior director Zoran's digital camera product line. "We are proud to be able to work with industry leader Samsung to deliver such innovative new products. Our digital camera team's long term integration expertise combined with Zoran's leading digital television technology delivers improved experiences for consumers." Both the Digimax L85 and Digimax i6 cameras also include USB 2.0 high speed connections for quick and easy transfers of captured content and PictBridge for a direct camera-printer connection, allowing photographers to print directly from the digital camera without the need for a personal computer.
